Awareness of the overall issue and education about how each healthcare team member can contribute to the recognition of and actions necessary to care for the victims of human trafficking. This course will delve into the current definitions, statistics, characteristics, and demographics of human trafficking, also referred to as modern day slavery. Additionally, this course emphasizes the many opportunities for a potential intervention related to statistics about human trafficking victims accessing healthcare.
 
Learning Objectives 
  • Recognize significant dates related to human trafficking.
  • Define common terms associated with human trafficking.
  • Identify seven key principles and concepts related to all forms of trafficking in persons.
  • Recognize current statistics related to human trafficking.
  • Discover common symptom presentation of the trafficking victim.
  • Discuss essential opportunities for the healthcare professional to assist in identifying victims of trafficking
Course Outcome
Participants will walk away with an awareness of the status of human trafficking and guidance for the actions necessary by all healthcare providers when presented the opportunity. The information provided will enhance awareness of interventions to promote competence, ultimately improving the quality of care and patient outcomes in today's multicultural healthcare setting.
